Our Search Process
We are a retained executive search practice.
Our clients... ...include companies, foundations...
...and non-profits. Even though every search we do is tailored to meet the needs of the individual client, the following is a general overview of the search process.

Learn about the client’s organization.  We learn as much as we can about the client’s organization, and the key people involved with the search, ideally meeting with those who will have a direct reporting relationship. We work closely with the hiring manager and search committee, and, if appropriate, partner with human resources to determine the interview process, time frame, and participants in hiring process.



Define the client’s needs and position specification. We listen to the client’s search objectives, and determine how we can best meet their needs. We agree on a search process that will meet their requirements, and discuss what the client is looking for in a candidate. As necessary, we refine and finalize the job description, and clarify the compensation (and relocation if relevant) package.



Develop and execute sourcing strategies to attract the best possible candidates. Our approach is personal and specialized. We spend a lot of time on the phone talking to sources and potential candidates. We employ special efforts to ensure a diverse slate of candidates. We send the job description and cover letter to a targeted list developed from our database, specialized research and the client’s contacts and suggestions.



Screen and evaluate potential candidates. As potential candidates emerge, we review their resumes and conduct initial screening interviews by phone. For those who are most on target, we conduct more in-depth interviews by phone and in person.



Facilitate client interviews. Once an initial slate of candidates has been chosen, we review each candidate profile with our client, highlighting strengths and any weaknesses through detailed evaluations. We then work with the client to select a final candidate pool for them to interview. We schedule interviews and travel arrangements as desired by our client. Following the interview process, we provide and facilitate candidate/client feedback. We provide constant communication to all candidates throughout the process so that the experience is a positive one and reflects well on the client.



Conduct thorough reference checking. Once the client has selected a final candidate(s), we conduct reference checks and provide the client with detailed written summaries of each reference interview.



Select final candidate and close the deal. We work closely with the client to weigh the pros and cons of candidates from the finalist pool. Once a finalist has been chosen, we facilitate discussions regarding compensation, start date, relocation, and other issues as appropriate. We also follow-up with any remaining candidates to close the loop.
